The current layout of Farnetella was designed by Adolfo Ferrari, the estate owner and antiques enthusiast. In 1889, he built his home by imitating the castles of several noble families from Siena, installing all the modern comforts to turn it into a place for the stay of wealthy vacationers. The project, however, which terminated in 1903, put a considerable strain on Ferrari’s finances and was left unfinished. However, the large castle and adjoining house influence the appearance of the entire town.
